Karen, Life Coach
All people desire a more meaningful life. Finding your pathway to that meaningfulness is what I am passionate about.
As a well travelled Cantabrian who has always had a curiosity about how we develop our potential, I have observed that there are those that are confronted with challenges in their life and find fulfilment. On the other hand, some struggle to find that fulfilment regardless of their circumstance.
This curiosity led me into the human services field as a volunteer when I was a mother of young children. The importance of being qualified to provide a more professional service to my clients developed into a career as a Counsellor and then as a Social Worker.
For the past 20 years, I have walked alongside people of all ages, ethnicity and gender, in my role as a Social Worker, Counsellor, Manager, Team Leader and Group Facilitator in the human services field. This has given me considerable knowledge, experience and wisdom in the area of human development, behaviours, relationships and social systems. More significantly I was able to observe how well people adapt to the challenges especially in the face of adversity.
As an advocate for my clients I have worked with medical, legal and business professionals.
My ethical practice has always been paramount.
In time I came to the conclusion that unless people are committed to change, through being attentive to how they think, feel and behave then change can only be short lived. As Socrates said:
“The unexamined life is not worth living”
My passion for doing it right!
There is no ‘quick fix’ and we are all aware how hard it is to break old habits. Positive changes will occur in one’s life if the work is prepared to be done at the outset, following this consistency develops with practice.
I am passionate about my structured approach,
the support and feedback I provide to assist the coachee define and reach their goals. This is often referred to as unlocking ‘potential’.
At the same time however I take what I do with my coachees very seriously. Whilst there are various challenges along the way making the process fun and enjoyable is important!
If I am not working I am connecting with family and friends. I am a lover of nature and enjoy keeping fit, researching/reading, playing my guitar, singing and homemaking.
My curiosity about how we develop potential and the challenges I have faced in my own life has led me on my own journey of personal development. I have learnt meditation and mindfulness techniques and have studied natural health and fitness. All of which I practice regularly.
Although I have extensive professional development as a Social Worker I have also made time outside work to attend personal development courses.
Sharing my wisdom, knowledge and skills to bring about change for people always excites me. I look forward to us taking this journey together.
